Turnitin Acquires ProctorExam

ProctorExam enhances Turnitin’s capabilities to help uphold the integrity of the virtual test-taking experience

Oakland, Calif.

Turnitin, a leading provider of academic integrity and assessment solutions, has acquired European online proctoring company ProctorExam, a global leader in providing flexible SaaS proctoring technology. With this acquisition, Turnitin will be able to offer universities and other institutions more options to uphold integrity in their assessments.

Uphold security, accuracy, and integrity

Since the first lockdown in March 2020 due to the global pandemic, ProctorExam has enabled more than two million remote assessments for partners including universities, education technology/service providers, and businesses. ProctorExam helps customers uphold the integrity of their assessments by providing different forms of proctoring depending on their needs. ProctorExam is committed to protecting personal privacy, prioritizing the customer experience, and being easy to use. Multi-language configurations are available in Dutch, French, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, and English.

Empower users with greater access to education

The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented need for tools that support learning continuity. Turnitin and ProctorExam will provide users access to a broad variety of market-leading tools, enhancing the integrity of virtual test-taking experiences with the option to use various forms of proctoring solutions. Together, both companies will empower users with greater access to education and equip organizations with more flexibility, cost-efficiency, scalability, and productivity.

“As the academic integrity and assessment landscape evolves, we are committed to supporting our university and school partners. By coming together with ProctorExam, we ensure that we keep pace with the evolving needs of educators and students. Over time, we will provide customers with a broad portfolio of services that support virtual and in-person assessment experiences,” says Chris Caren, CEO Turnitin.

"Being acquired by Turnitin is an exciting step in ProctorExam’s journey – for clients who will benefit from additional services and for the team members who worked tirelessly to grow the company. Our company’s vision is to make testing more accessible to more people and as a part of Turnitin, we will continue to realize that goal,” says Daniel Haven, director ProctorExam.
